What I Wore | Sweater Weather

It’s been one heck of a chilly winter here in the Midwest! We are beyond ready for spring and it’s happier hues, lighter layers, and sunny days! Hopefully we are headed towards some consistent warmer weather, but until then we must continue to play with our winter wardrobe!

Here’s a look that I put together for work last week. I loooove my peter pan collar blouse as it lives nicely on its own but is the perfect layering piece to jazz up a look! This blouse/sweater combination can easily make the transition to a night out or weekend errands by switching the tights and skirt for a pair of skinny jeans that hit nicely at the ankle and booties instead of heels!

What I Wore | Animal Print Done Right

Animal print is so prevalent these days it’s beginning to become this fantastic printed neutral! Which who doesn’t love a great print to jazz up a basic look?

However, in my opinion, there is a way to wear animal print that is, um, how do I say this politely, not like anyone on Jersey Shore. Okay, great, you got the visual. That is exactly how I recommend you don’t wear animal print. Why be tacky when you can rock animal print classically?

Yesterday, I paired a muted animal print shift dress I got at J.Crew two years ago with a white honeycomb sweater over it with a necklace that had just enough weight to pop. Then, threw my favorite tan tweed blazer over that. Added black ribbed tights ( it was 20 degrees yesterday, people) and black heels and I was out the door.

Layering sweaters or long sleeve tees over dresses is one of my very favorite ways of maximizing my wardrobe options. Of course, it’s much easier to do with more basic dresses. Though, after styling my animal print shift into a more creative look I’m inspired to rethink my other printed dresses to extend their wear outside of ‘just a dress.’ I’ll keep you posted ūüėČ

What I Wore | Playing with Textures

Seeing that it’s Fashion Week in New York, I’m pretending that if I were there I would totally be wearing this outfit. I know it’s not super dramatic or a far stretch from what I typically wear, but I love the idea of playing with textures – leather, fur, and suede. I’m sure if I was trying to be spotted at Lincoln Center I’d edit it slightly to include much more dramatic jewelry and probably a leather pant, but I’m at work so proper slacks are a must and bangles get annoying!

This fur vest was a STEAL from T.J.Maxx forever ago and the shoes were a gift from my mother after begging her to borrow them from her closet – loving the suede and cutout detail making it a transitional shoe for the Spring (whenever it gets here!!). Not to mention my go-to slack from J.Crew and this leather detailed blouse. This outfit is totally work appropriate but can transition to night with jeans or a skirt and tights!

Happy Fashion Week!

What I Wore | Manic Monday Edition

Phew! It’s a miracle I made it to work this morning! I swear, even with the best laid plans – laying out outfit and making lunch the night before – things still go awry! I blame Mondays, straight up. Whether it’s oversleeping my alarm, spilling my coffee all over the kitchen counter, or the dog having an accident in the hall that I now have to clean up, there’s just something about this day that ensures I will not be on time to save my life.

Thankfully for laying my outfit out last night, getting dressed was the easiest part of my morning while I ran around trying to put the rest of the pieces of my life together. However, because I was running so late I didn’t even think about snapping a few pics of my look for the P&F post today. Thus, why you are so lucky to have the stunning view of my office’s restroom as the backdrop for today’s post.

All jokes aside, when you’re dressed in sleek look like the mauve colored blouse pictured (with that great neckline cutout!!) and a great pair of pants (those navy J.Crew Minnie pictured are a fav) and classic heels, no one would ever guess how frazzled you’ve been for the past 45 minutes because you look completely pulled together and ready to take on the day. Proof that how you present yourself to the world speaks before you can (All that other stuff can be our little secret ūüėČ ).

Happy Manic Monday!

What I Wore | Idea to Execution

Waking up for a client meeting without a clue what to wear is never a way to start a morning. Lucky for us there are a surplus of blogs and Pinterest to inspire us! Last week I found myself in the same predicament but was able to pull something chic and sophisticated together based on a year old pin and some staple pieces in my closet!

Inspiration via Classy in the city
Execution: Simple slim black pant Рa staple for the working girl (J.Crew is our fave!), Cardigans and button up blouses offer a great layering opportunity, and a bit of personality is brought through with accessories (jeweled necklace and leopard print heels)

What I Wore :: Tailored Sweatshirts for Work

Yesterday we showcased the ever so comfortable trend of sweatshirts. We love the bejeweled collars, unique fabric choices and zipper details that take these casual pieces to the next level. Inspired by yesterday’s post, Stephanie put the trend to a test, dressing a quilted grey sweatshirt with pearl-detailed sleeves for work.

What I Wore :: Fall Textures and Prints

Textures and prints can turn basics like a plain white tee or a pair of skinny jeans into a knock-out look. They allow your style to be elevated and create statement worthy looks. Never be intimidated to mix prints and textures, the key, as always, is to keep it simple and polished.

What I Wore :: Pastels and Polka Dots

One of the more interesting trends for Fall is the incorporation of Spring’s pastels. These soft hues play nicely with the rich browns and jewel tones that are more common this time of year. A simple sweater paired with boots and a blazer is a great look for your everyday – work or play. You could also dress it up with a pastel ¬†midi skirt, chunky knit and booties. The possibilities to enjoy this trend are endless…and not to mention how these playful colors can add some brightness to a chilly Fall day ūüôā

What I Wore :: Fall Ready

Andddd we are back! The last couple of weeks have been a tad crazy, but we are ready to get back into the swing of things here at Polish and Flair. This week we will be focusing on all things Fall. With this cold surge that is hitting Ohio we have dug out our sweaters, scarves and boots and cannot wait to share some of our favorite looks for this fun season!

This look from Kate is perfect for a Fall Friday at work, an evening out or even a visit to the pumpkin patch!
